This new body work titled “Shadows” is composed of mixed medium paintings and drawings, as well as selected poetry. The work is a study of our former selves and their manifestation in our present self. Our past, although occurring in previous fragments of time, coexist simultaneously with our present conscious, creating layers within us. We live with our past ghosts that often surface. The formal qualities of these pieces are intense detailed layers and rich gel glosses, with subtle imagery. I have used a variety of surfaces including canvas, paper, a vintage canvas from 1975, and a roll out screen made in the 1910’s. Using recycled and reworked materials is constant in all of my work, with this series it seems to work as a reflection of the study itself; the concept of rebirth and developing a layered existence. – CARMEN LARSENFrom- ” L’Urlo Di Un Gruppo Di Donne Indiane “The photos on display were made in a NGO institution called “Guild of Service”, founded in 1972 by Mohini Giri. This 28 year old writer and producer has spent the better half of his life exploring every bastardization of electronic and sample-based contemporary music, and refuses to settle into any textbook category. Growing up in Chicago in the 80′s, his early inspiration stemmed from early Electro and Freestyle, to classic analog House and the advent of Ghetto House (now known as Juke). By 2001, Salva had the first exclusive Electro Bass weekly party in Miami Beach, and was active planning and playing Winter Music Conference parties and big South Beach club nights, deep into the thriving IDM and Drum and Bass scenes in one of the epicenter’s of American underground music. By the middle of the decade he moved back to the midwest and dove into Indie and Hip Hop production, writing and producing for artists on labels like Colombia, Domino and Rhymesayers. Since relocating to the west coast, Salva has performed live and DJed in several countries and most major cities in the US, sharing the stage with countless syndicated acts. In the wake of Grime and Funky UK-centric dance music, Salva’s productions and remixes have been played by Mary Anne Hobbes, DJ Craze & Kill The Noise, Gilles Peterson, Starkey, Lazer Sword and many others, featured on some of today’s quintessential radio shows and blogs and podcasts like 2Dopeboys, LuckyMe, XLR8R, FACT, BBC Radio 1 and Big Up Magazine. Salva’s original music and remixes have been featured on releases alongside artists like Flosstradamus, Dubbel Dutch, B. Rich, eDIT, Boreta, Jahcoozi, P.O.S., Lorn, Mike Boo, Walter Meego, and many more, spanning several different styles of music across several independent record labels in the US, UK and Japan. His own imprint called Frite Nite has helped to brand the careers of several up and coming underground stars, with a catalog of releases celebrated all over world. Locally he is active in one of the most forward thinking weekly events called Change The Beat, which has been a staple in San Francisco for almost 5 years. Currently Salva is putting his eclectic range of influences to back into his work consulting on major label pop productions, while continuing Press: >> LONGWALKSHORTDOCK – Vancouver<< Longwalkshortdock esentially started the first time Dave King heard gritty electronic music in early eighties videogames. Strongly influenced by these sounds and melodys, Dave started recording and looping segments as a child. He also got a taste for sampling and recording; taping segments of his piano practice to fool his parents into thinking he was practicing in the other room when he was really playing nintendo (note : actually practicing might have served me better). Currently, a veteran of sound design and electronic music production for well over a decade, Longwalkshortdock’s music has stepped into a genre of its own. Heavily influnced by early 80s video game music, metal and rock music, found-sound and vintage analog synthesis, he stacks layers of melody in his tracks until they implode and reform. Heavy drums and aggresive synths join forces with rolling grooves and melodic lead lines to create a wide variety of slamming dance floor originals. Lesser known fact : Not limited to dance music, LWSD’s music crosses into many territories. His vast catalogue of hundreds of songs dives into ambient, IDM, electro, acid, house, big beat, indie rock, drones, electronica and down tempo. Dave holds two degrees from the Art Institute of Burnaby for Music Recording and Production. Playing songs and remixes he wrote and produced, Longwalkshortdock performs live PA with live vocals, synthesizers, drum machines, guitar, effects, toys, computers and even some of his own strobes and lighting. Know for his increadably “enthusiastic” performances, longwalkshortdock creates an undeniable stage presence and visceral experience at a show. Break through performances at Soundwave 2009 and Shambhala 2010 have made LWSD an artist to watch out for. Longwalkshortdock has performed live with the likes of Phil Western (Download, Skinny Puppy, Kone) and opened for talented artists like, MSTRKRFT, Junkie XL, Vibesquad, Alex Patterson (The Orb), Mimosa, Adam Freeland, Shout out out out out and Matt the Alien. Always working to enhance and upgrade the LWSD live experience Dave is currently in the process of collaborating with veteran of visual wizardry Tim Hill of RIM Visuals. Longwalkshortdocks debut self-released record, “Casual Tea” is out now would love to hear from you if you would like one. Final point of note : Did you know they found him in a cave on the moon? Thats what i heard… >> STICKYBUDS – GOOD GROOVE RECORDS – Kelowna << From the funkafied west coast of Canada, Tyler Martens (aka Stickybuds), has been making his mark on music all over the world. In the last year and a half he has toured Brazil, UK and Canada headlining and supporting with the worlds best DJ’s. His intense work ethic and passion for destroying dancefloors with multi-genre sets have earned him a residency at Shambhala music festival (2005 – 2010), and big gigs all around the world. His passion for sound design and music has also earned Tyler a role as a teacher at the Center of Arts and Technology (Kelowna, BC) where he helps sculpt the producers of tomorrow. He can also be found teaching his production seminars on the road building a network of like-minded individuals and spreading his passion for music. 2011 looks bright with a slew of upcoming remix’s and solo ep’s scheduled, a tour of Australia and New Zealand and many shows in North America. The future is bright for the forward thinking, passionate and all around nice guy Stickybuds. >> BOGL – San Francisco<< > Bevvy Swift – IGU http://soundcloud.com/bevvy_swift >HxdB – (Surefire Sounds, Pressing Issues) http://soundcloud.com/hexadecibel > Nils – Beats Without Borders http://www.beatswithoutborders.com/ > DJ Lyssa – Stereoshift Burlesque >Sweet Soul Burlesque West Coast Fashion Show Curated by Ash Turner, Hosted by Crystal Precious.
